Modelica has enormous potential to revolutionise the engineering industry by promoting the reuse and exchange of simulation models.
We strongly believe in the power of Modelica and are excited by the opportunities it presents. It is upon this foundation that all our products are built.
Modelica is a freely available, object-oriented, equation based language for modelling of large, complex physical systems.
First created in the late 1990s, Modelica was borne out of a desire to create a single, unifying modelling language that “could express the behaviour of models from a wide range of engineering domains without limiting those models to a particular commercial tool” (Tiller, M., 2001).
The design of Modelica has been developed by a wide range of contributors, including developers of previous object-oriented modelling languages, academics, experts from many engineering domains and members of the Modelica Association.
The non-profit Modelica Association was formed in 2000 to manage the development and maintenance of the continually evolving, open-standard Modelica Language Specification and the free, open-source Modelica Standard Library and it is this Association that now has primary responsibility for Modelica.
Modelica is used to describe the behaviour of physical systems and can be used for a wide range of applications, ranging from simple systems all the way up to complex systems with large networks.
Primarily, Modelica conveniently models the dynamic behaviour of technical systems that consist of a variety of components from different domains. These components may be electrical, mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, electronic, pneumatic, fluid, control or process-oriented.
Modelica is ideally suited to multi-domain modelling and industries such as the automotive industry, mechatronics in robotics, the aerospace industry, power plant providers and more are making increasing use of Modelica.
We believe that there is a compelling case for the use of Modelica in every engineering company and we are passionate about harnessing the power of Modelica within the engineering design and development process.
Free and commercial Modelica modelling libraries put a wealth of knowledge and expertise at your fingertips, Modelica models can easily be resued and interchanged between tools and Modelica gives you with the ability to combine a wide range of physical domains in one tool.
Our products and services further seek to put the power of Modelica in the hands of Modelica experts and non-experts alike through intuitive interfaces, training, customisation and more.
